The Kids Made The Final Decision For Us

A few days ago I mentioned we were having our annual Fall Bodacious Yard & Bake Sale today. When I wrote the post I was exhausted, stressed, overwhelmed and off balance from the chaos in the house. Between the numerous boxes stuffed in each room, the kids reacting to the clutter and knowing something was happening, I was in the batshit crazy zone. While it felt good to vent, I was convinced our decision that this would be the last yard and bake sale was based solely on my current state of mind.

Well, our decision, after all is said and done, stands firm. This will be our last.

Despite how easy this decision was to make prior to the event, it became slightly painful to make afterwards. The pros and cons weighed heavy. Throughout the day I stood back. On the outside looking in. I wanted to be objective. I didn't want our decision to be tainted by sleep deprivation, stress, etc.

At the end of the day, there was balance. It would have been easy to sway.

This time, we had help with the physical labor.

In addition to Lisa and I, there were 4 others to assist with setting up 15 tables and emptying about 75 boxes.

A few people, who we deeply adore, from our Bodacious Community showed up and visited for a while...including some first-timers.

Our local ACO showed up with her hubs and fur-kids.

Lots of laughs.

A couple of people donated wine. This assisted with my ability to "people" for 7 hours.

Jayber had a little too much wine and that resulted in him wearing a riding helmet and testing out the scooters.

As the afternoon progressed, we had more help.

On the other end of the spectrum...

We didn't make nearly enough to cover what we want to do for Holiday Bodacious Biscuit Love. The funds from our Bodacious Yard & Bake Sale will cover ingredients. Supplies and shipping and everything else will be out of pocket.

It rained in the wee hours of the morning during setup. For about 5 minutes. It was enough to soak most everything.

October is a shitty time to host a yard and bake sale.

Physically, it was draining. By the end of the day, I could barely walk.

The general public didn't care that this was an event to raise money for the pound pups and kitties. They just wanted lot of stuff for dirt cheap.

I made sure to clarify where we stood before the haggling began.

So yeah. Balance.

However, as mentioned, at the end of the day, what trumped the pros and cons, the many laughs and a few visits from familiar faces from our Bodacious Community...

Our kids.

This time around, they barked more, while confined to our bedroom, despite frequent trips outdoors in the back yard.

Once the yard was cleared and leftover items were hauled off (thank you, Shelley), Lisa and I sat on the sofa. Our kids made a mad dash to where we were sitting. Jumped up. Scurried back and forth between Lisa and I. After ten minutes, they were snuggled as close to us as they could. Fast asleep. Finally calm. At peace. Settled.

The day had been too much for them.

They let us know in all of their cuteness and unique ways. They made the final decision for us. This will be our last Bodacious Yard & Bake Sale.
